Who We Are

IZ Audio Labs is Ian Z. Anderson. Ian is an Associate Professor of Music specializing in audio recording at Kent State University at Stark's growing Music Technology program. He lives in West Akron with his wife and dachshunds.

Ian earned a Bachelor of Music degree in electronic and computer music from The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he also served as Director of Audio Services for two years. Here he developed strong chops in high-fidelity classical and jazz recording. He has had the honor of recording legends like Dave Brubeck and Ida Haendel.

After a few years wandering the worlds of user interface design and web development, Ian was granted the opportunity to apply his classical engineering techniques to rock and roll when he moved to Tennessee to pursue his MFA at Middle Tennessee State University's legendary Recording Industry Studies program.

Music Ian has engineered, produced and mixed has appeared on national television programs including One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl, and Ian's custom-built professional audio equipment has been used by Grammy-winning engineers on as many as 7 #1 hits and at least one Grammy-winning recording over the past decade.
